When Things Go Very Wrong
In the midst of attempting to convert PowerPoint lectures into a format that I could post on Moodle, I have encountered two significant problems. One, files larger than 10mb are too large to convert. Two, certain lectures convert into all black screen and in some instances I am unable to edit these lectures so they can be read.
Some Solutions:
Now PowerPoint has an option that allows for reducing the file size of some files that can be found under the File operations heading or found using the application's help option.
Likewise, Google Docs allows for some editing of converted PowerPoint files.

The Failed Experiment
He is a link to that is original PowerPoint lecture that uses the same format of the lecture I intended to convert. Below, I will post the failed conversion.

All Moodle, All The Time.
Now that I have been able to take a big chunk out of the research paper, I feel I am able to devote the time I need to developing a course for Moodle. I will have to start playing in the Moodle playground Helen provided and see what I can break in the name of education.
I can now embed YouTube videos on Moodle.
The world is now my oyster. I can embed video on Moodle!
The following steps demonstrate how it is done.
The following steps demonstrate how it is done.
How can I embed a YouTube video in my course page?
- Go to YouTube and find the video you wish to embed.
- Copy the code which is in the Embed field to the right of the video window in Youtube. The easiest way to do this is to right click in the field and click on select all, then right click again and select copy.
- Now go into your Moodle course.
- Turn editing on.
- From an Add a resource drop down menu choose Insert a Label
- Enter a name for the video at the top.
- Then click on Toggle HTML source button on the toolbar (the < > icon)
- This will take you into HTML mode.
- Paste the code you have previously copied from Youtube into this box, then click on save and return to course.

Show Me App
I found an app that will sort of let me use the iPad as a whiteboard and then record the session. It is clunky and demonstrates that what I was hoping to accomplish can be done. At the same time it will not let me post to moodle.
Below is a link to a short test of the app.

There should be a video above, but I can not tell on an iPad.

Or maybe not so useful
There are apps for moodle!
Theory does not always work in Practice.
I have spent much of the late morning attempting to discover if I could somehow record what I was doing on the iPad with a desktop computer. I think there may be a way to do so on the iPad 2 using an HDMI adapter, but not so with the first gen iPad. It is a bummer because I was going to attempt to find a note taking app which could have functioned as a virtual white board. I have not lost all hope, but my vision does not appear to be, at best, not easily implemented or, at worst, it may not even be possible to execute.
On a more positive note, I have been updating iDevices to the new iOS 5. There are a number of excellent features that have been included in the update. Given the integration with the Lion OS, I may have to consider looking into upgrading my OS. The problem is I really like Snow Leopard and I am not sure how well Lion will work on an older iMac.

Partial success
First blog entry from my iPad
Not a total success, but a good first step. My goal is to attempt to see how much of a class can be developed using merely an iPad. I am in the process of determining whether I can use the iPad to capture video using the VGA out cable. If that works, I will attempt to integrate tutorials on the iPad, which I will then attempt to screen capture what I am doing on my desk top computer. Looks like tomorrow will be putting the pieces in place.
As you can see below, I discovered how to screen capture on the iPad, but I am unable to adjust the orientation of the image. I will figure it out later.

The Work Around
Screen Capture Using a Mac
I Just Added Myself As An Author To My Blog
Denied
My work around for correcting my image loading problem appears to be outdated. I will have to find another work around.
There May Be Hope
I have learned the source of my problems related to being unable to post images to this blog. The link below describes the exact problem I have been encountering. Now I will attempt to implement a solution. After seeing the awesome picture Susan has on her blog, I am eager to be able to post photos from my own files.

First Jing Screenshot
My attempts to post the .png file of the Jing screenshot has failed. I attempted to use two different browsers, but I just was unable to get the image to load into the blog. I will do some searches to see if I am able to discover a solution to posting images on the blog.
