Presentation Embed Test Using Google Docs

2 comments:

  1. Very cool to have this as an embedded Google presentation! I think embedding is much more powerful than merely linking, because in my experience as soon as people have to click to go somewhere else, they are far less likely to follow the link than if they can watch/read whatever you want them to without having to go to a different place (and if they DO go to the new link, they may stay there not come back to the original page!).

Watching your presentation here made me think about the pros and cons of presentations that automatically advance from slide to slide (as yours does here). If the slides auto advance, it makes it easier for the user, BUT if there is a lot of text on the slide, it's really hard to gauge how long to show each slide because different people read at different rates. So my thinking is that when you have slides with text, have them set so that users click through manually (which may mean that you can't embed? I haven't tried this??). If the slides are mostly images, then auto works well. What are your thoughts on this?

  2. Dear Helen,

I agree with your thoughts regarding embedding powerpoints as being a superior form of presenting lectures. You have also given me much to think about regarding presentational difficulties when posting materials for a group of students. I am still unfamiliar with the use of technology and I appreciate the perspective you provide.

In regards to the advancement of slides, it appears that there is an automatic mode if one clicks the play button and an option to advance one side at a time using the >> buttons. I personally would shy away from the use of an autoplay feature, but I am not sure if google docs allows a level of customization in presenting texts.
